Question:
Do you agree with David Grossman? Explain why or why not.
Answer:
I agree that he has some valid points, however, there are also some that just don't make sense. I do agree that in some cases the video games or TV shows might influence some children to act violent, however, it is usually not the case. In my opinion, he sounds like he is saying that children are stupid enough to not realize that they should not act the way people do on TV or in video games. Also, comparing soldiers in training to children watching TV is unreasonable because it will not teach children to forget about their emotions and just act since children usually put their emotions first. He also said, "We're not just teaching kids to kill. We're teaching them to like it." I strongly disagree with this statement. You do kill in some video games, however, it is not teaching us how to kill, because real life killing is much more different from the killing in the video games and children are aware of that. Also, we're not teaching them to like it, it's just a way for children to release their stress from their everyday life in a fun and exciting way. In conclusion, he's mostly looking at one side of the story, the side which supports his opinions.
Yeah, I think that you right Thuy!! I agree with you. Some TV or video games does not teach children to killing other people and stuff. But really most of the Tv programs or video games makes children to relax themself. I agree with you thuy'!!!!
ReplyDeleteI agree 3 out of 4 of what Thuy's said. I agree that he was wrong about teaching kids to like violence. But teaching them to kill it, I think they might affect the kids maybe not directly, somehow, violent games could affect kids' mind.
ReplyDeleteYeahh... I agree with you. Soldiers in training and kids watching T.V are NOT similar. Both of them have different life and activity. Killing in real life are also have a big different here. It sounds like he means sometimes, kids can just go out and kill people. But it's not. In games, they just need to press a button or so to shoot. But in real life, they have to hold a gun or a weapon XD. With their strength and ability, I don't think they will be able to do that.
ReplyDeleteLastly, you're right. He only looking at one side of the story instead of talking about both and compare them. He only talked about the part that supports his opinions.
100% agree with you, David Grossman is a bias dude, need to rethink about his ridiculous statement:" Teaching kids to kill and enjoy it". He needs another psychologist to check him again.
ReplyDeletei KNOW RIGHT??
ReplyDeletethat dude just blamed it all on the gaming and tv industries! I mean it's not like it's their fault or anything, they even have labels like 18 +, but it's the parents' and kids' fault they didn't listen in the first place! Those people made games for people who are responsible enough, and they don't want kids to go out killing someone, but they need to make money to support their lives!
I think you are right when you said, "children are stupid enough to not realize that they should not act the way people do on TV or in video games" and "real life killing is much more different from the killing in the video games". But, kids can learn to like them because, they might enjoy what they see on screen and they will like them.
ReplyDeleteI totally aagreed with you Thuy because you said that games also may influence the childrens in the real life. Example like they may disturb and violence in the real life when they play violent games. And you also strongly disagree with the statement that David Grossman said, I have the same opinion too. Games just place that help them to have a better feelings and made them forgot problem, troubles.. we not teaching them to kil or like it
